Janitzio or Janitsïo in Purépecha means “corn flower” or, in another translation, “Corn hair”. It is the largest of the five islands that Lake Pátzcuaro has, a magical town in Michoacán.

It is one of the islands of Lake Pátzcuaro, located in the State of Michoacán, Mexico. It is the most important of the five islands.

It stands out for the special celebration of the Day of the Dead carried out by its inhabitants. Its festival has indigenous Purépecha roots and is founded on an ancient legend.
