Ajolote K1

This pink Mexican axolotl represents the beginning of a series of illustrations that show this curious animal that is endemic to the Valley of Mexico.

The axolotl has the ability to regenerate its limbs, but it can also grow tissues such as the lungs, eyes, ovaries, spinal cord, brain, and heart. As a study model, this species is the vertebrate with the greatest capacity for cell regeneration.

This amphibian, which is in danger of extinction in its natural habitat, has also attracted the interest of researchers because of the relative ease with which it can reproduce.
